Section 2.1 - Introduction to Astrophysics

Our Portal to the Heavens

Since time immemorial, our ancestors have looked up at the stars and wondered about our place in the cosmos. Where do we come from? Where are we going? What is the nature of our existence? While ancient cultures looked up to the stars and saw their heroes in the constellations, the fact is that we've been utterly incapable of answering these questions for most of human history, turning instead to superstition, folklore, and religion to explain the incomprehensible.

But with the advent of modern technology, we are better able to understand these fundamental questions. This unit will strive to explain the nature and dynamics of astronomical objects, as well as provide insight into the origins and ultimate fate of our Universe
